My Love Has No End
My new EP My Love Has No End is out !!!!! Thankful to Phil, Matt, Oli, Harry and Tim for contributing their talents and helping make it happen. These songs were and still feel very healing and joyful for me. To me, this EP is celebratory, even in moments of pain or anxiety. It’s difficult not to sound corny when talking about just how much I needed these songs when they came, like little gems of guiding lights, they hold messages I’ll hold onto forever.
This EP feels like a very long exhale. Now I hope that healing & joy can be passed onto you.
Track 1. River
I wrote River, the leading single, with my bandmate Phil Spencer, kind of as a part two to a song we co-wrote five years ago, Ice Cream. It’s about accepting and embracing change, learning to go with the flow and relinquish control over the inevitable. “Roll with the river” is a mentality that has genuinely stuck with me ever since writing the song. It serves as a reminder to slow down a little in times when I feel completely overwhelmed by worry and my habit of catastrophising. On the day this song came out I pulled a tarot card, and when I went to read up about it’s meaning it was all about letting yourself flow like a river. I kid you not. Spooky af
Track 2. Freddy
When I wrote this song it felt like letting a little butterfly I’d had trapped in a cage fly away. It's a windows down, soft breeze, bittersweet sunset car-ride home kind of track. It’s about forgiveness; love that runs so deep that you still want the best for someone, despite the pain they caused you. Knowing it’s in your best interest to stop carrying around that heavy weight of anger, realising they are in turmoil within themselves and hoping they can find happiness in the end too. Love that knocks pride and ego out of the way to reveal empathy, and allow everyone to move on.
Track 3. Your Dog
Have you ever gotten really attached to your partners dog, and then broke up and had to break up with the dog too?? I genuinely grieve the pets of my exes. This is about being afraid of all the ways you become intertwined with someone, for fear of one day having to let go of it all. Looking into the future of a happy new relationship but only seeing the heartbreak ahead. Wondering if maybe it’s easier to not get involved at all, if these things always seem to end in pain. But hey, love is always worth the risk right?!
Track 4. My Love Has No End
The title track was the first song I wrote of the EP. It was Valentines Day, I had absolutely nothing going on, and I sat down ready to write something, frankly, bitter and lonely. Instead, this song came out. It’s about celebrating your capacity for love, even after handing it out freely has gotten you into trouble in the past. It’s about noticing the special and unique ways in which you show your love, and thinking about how lucky the next person who gets to experience that will be, whoever they are, wherever they are. It may bleed, break, bend but my love has no end ! The guitar and vocals are a one-take live recording, you can hear the birds outside the studio!
Tour
I’m deep in the winter blues right now and have been thinking a lot about how much fun our tour was back in November. We began in London, at the iconic Hope & Anchor. It had been over a year since we’d gotten together to play a show as the full band, and every second of this gig felt like things clicking back into place. As the room filled up, the atmosphere felt so warm and full of love. It was the first time I got to hear “roll with the river” sung back to me. I left with such a big smile on my face and a very very full heart.
Next up was Birmingham, our first time playing there and I believe our northern most gig?! The initial nerves of playing had faded into excitement after a successful show the night before. No dressing room meant getting changed in a tiny toilet cubical, not the most glamorous of activities but a right of passage for sure. While I was doing my makeup in the bathroom a girl came up to me saying she was really excited for the show, which dissipated any anxiety I had about playing in a new city.
Our final stop was Bristol, where I’d been based for the past few years before moving back to my home--town. And it did not disappoint!! This gig felt like a party, everyone was dancin. I can’t explain the feeling of getting to see you singing every word to songs I wrote in my bedroom. I won’t forget the faces in the crowd that night I got to sing together with.
Thanks to my band for being the best team and putting in the miles. Evie Norman - backing vocals, Cathy Ife - bass, Kevin Sane - dep lead guitar, Matt Shelbourne - drums
